Menstrual Hygiene Guideline

Through the collective efforts of the team, the Ministry of Education, Department of Higher Education, has issued a directive (vide F.No.17-5/2023-U.5) to the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to investigate the issue and take necessary action.

As a result of these efforts, the Government of India has introduced a Uniform Menstrual Policy for the entire country. This policy represents a landmark initiative aimed at addressing menstrual health and hygiene issues nationwide. Formulated through a collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Education, UGC, and AICTE, the policy seeks to standardize menstrual health practices in educational institutions.

Key components include integrating menstrual health education into school curricula, ensuring free and accessible menstrual hygiene products in restrooms, and improving infrastructure to support proper hygiene and disposal. Additionally, the policy emphasizes the importance of counseling and medical support for managing menstrual health issues, while promoting gender sensitivity to include all students, including transgender and non-binary individuals. Through these measures, the policy aims to enhance menstrual health, reduce absenteeism, and foster gender equality in educational settings. It sets a precedent for comprehensive menstrual health management within India and serves as a potential model for other regions.
